Mansions with sweeping riverside views, stone walls, and imported marble floors are hard to come by in Northern Virginia (or anywhere else, for that matter). So, when one goes up on the market, like this towering castle in McLean, it’s important to act fast to get an offer in — or, if you can’t swing the $22 million listing price, you can at least gawk at the photos like the rest of us.

The sellers of 612 Rivercrest Dr., McLean have dubbed it “The Castle on the Potomac.” It sits on 1.2 acres of land, directly overlooking the Potomac River. Its interior living space is 16,000 square feet — that’s eight bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, plus entertainment spaces that include a theater, game and recreation areas, and an indoor pool and sauna. The home has an au pair or in-law suite on the lower level, as well as an underground escape room.

If there’s one thing every mansion needs, it’s a staircase worthy of a Casablanca-style grand entrance. This foyer certainly qualifies, with its towering ceilings, crystal chandelier, and imported iron railing. This home contains “the highest ceilings known to be approved in McLean history,” according to the listing.

The living room presents the perfect place to gaze at the view, through the wide, arched windows. The columns along the walls add to the interior’s elaborate design aesthetic, and the concentric circles visible in the hardwood floors shows off the unconventional shape of the room.

The primary suite is upstairs, with panoramic views of the river and a towering ceiling. To the right, there is a separate seating area in front of a marble fireplace. All of the bedrooms in the home have hardwood floors.

The bathroom attached to the primary bedroom has a huge tub situated in the center of the room, with even more stunning views. And, yes, the floors are heated.

There’s a private balcony from the primary suite that overlooks the Potomac, from which the listing notes that it’s possible to hear the national anthem playing from across the river at Carderock Naval Center.

Another of the home’s many bedrooms, this room has stunning arched windows and circular details on the ceiling, all in a rich shade of brown that contrasts vividly with the cream walls.

Head to the expansive recreation area for a dip in the pool, no matter the season. The ceilings are lined with wood, and detailed mosaic tiles adorn the wall and several columns throughout the space.

Out back, the wide lawn presents the perfect opportunity to gather around a fireplace or just relax in the fresh air.
